Peronsally I'm not hearing the second C#m7 in the verse pattern. And I'm not hearing the maj7 in the G/A. Here's how I have it, in case someone else finds it useful:

Everything barred except G/A = 5x5433

Verse Chords: Dmaj7 - C#m7 - Bm7 - F#m7 G/A
Chorus Chords: Bm7 - E7 - C#m7 - F#m7 G/A

Verse 1
Dmaj7 C#m7
Do you remember
Bm7 F#m7 Dmaj7 C#m7
the 21st night of September?
Bm7 F#m7 Dmaj7 C#m7
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
Bm7 Fm7 G/A
While chasing the clouds away

Verse 2 (DM7 - C#m7 - Bm7 - F#m7 G/A)
Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away

Chorus
Bm7 E7 C#m7 F#m7
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Bm7 E7 C#m7 F#m7
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Bm7 E7 C#m7 F#m7 G/A
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

Verse 3 (DM7 - C#m7 - Bm7 - F#m7 G/A)
My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love,
Remember how we knew love was here to stay

Verse 4 (DM7 - C#m7 - Bm7 - F#m7 G/A)
Now December found the love that we shared in September.
Only blue talk and love,
Remember the true love we share today

[Chorus x 2]

The bass guitar frequently hits, as part of varying bass riffs, a C# note (the 5th of the F# chord) as a leading tone into the D chord. I don't have the tune or an instrument with me to hear if a C# chord is there, or if it would work, but that bass note could explain the OP's take.

This song can get confusing in a cover situation depending on what people are listening to... I haven't had occassion to thoroughly analyze the chords but in the original track, in the section that is all "be da ya's," (section immediately following the first chorus) the bass plays the verse riffs so it suggests to me that verse chords rather than chorus chords might make sense there (maybe either progression works or maybe I'm wrong but I am sure of what the bass is doing- playing the verse). All of the subsequent "be da ya" parts, these parts end with words from the chorus, have the bass playing the chorus riffs so those parts, indeed, suggests verse chords to me. That's my two cents.

Make my last explanatory sentence "suggests CHORUS chords." Sorry for the confusion, this song seems to be good at it!
