Say Yes - Elliott Smith
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tabbed by: F# 11th w3
Tuning: Full step down.
This tab has 2 purposes. First to correct the wrongly tabbed chords in most other tabs.
And second to give a suggestion on how to play the 1st and 2nd guitar parts on ONE
guitar. If you want the exact tabs for both guitars separate than I suggest to use the
power tab version here on UG, which is 100% correct. Read further to become the campfire
hero, :-)
For the solo, bridge 1 and 2 I put a link to YouTube where you can see how I play them
myself, might the tab not be clear enough.
[Verse 1]
Note that the last chord A7 has a few extra strums. The tabbed notes are exactly what
Elliott plays, but you can play it in your own way, doesn't really matter as long as you
keep the right rhythm. You could use the same strums for every chord (the same
for every verse actually), but I'm to lazy to tab that out.

Here I altered a few things. The 1st guitar plays the same as verse 1. The 2nd guitar
comes in and plays a few high notes on the e-string. So with only one guitar you could
play it like this.

[Intermezzo/solo]
1st Guitar plays the chords as in verse 1, 2nd guitar plays the solo. I tried to combine
both guitars in something playable for one guitar. This means that some notes are an
octave lower than the 2nd guitar plays them.
You'll have to figure out the rhythm yourself here. To make it more clear I put an
asterix (*) next to the notes that should coincide with the bass strokes of the 1st
guitar. When you put the right accent on the notes of the solo and keep the rhythm
correct at the same time then it sounds great. Practise required!

[Verse 3]
The same as verse 2 with only one difference at the end on the A7 chords. There you can
play something similar as the end of the solo:
e|-----5-------------------------|
B|-----5----8h10---10----10p8----|
G|-----6----9------9-----9-------|
D|-----5----7----7-----7---------|

[Verse 4]
The same as verse 3.

But turned around sooner or laaaaa... ter...
Here I will combine the simple chords of the 1st guitar again with the 2nd guitar high
notes. The chords above the tab are there to indicate the rhythm, since the rhythm of
the chords is easy to hear in the song (Em is not played in my version, although 1st
guitar does play it). So you'll know where and how fast the notes must be played.

The word 'yes' dissolves into verse 6 which of course starts with the G chord again.
In this part there is mainly one guitar so this is not too difficult. Over the C
chord and the Am chord there are some notes from the 2nd guitar which I combined
again. The same for the last G and F chords.

The same as verses 3-5. It ends with one stroke on the complete A7 chord on the 5th
fret.

So that's it. This is my first tab, hope you all have fun with it. Will try to do some
more tabbing when I find the time. Any comments or suggestions welcome.

I don't think this tab is "way too difficult" at all. I think it is tabbed out exceptionally well and the videos help tremendously (otherwise I wouldn't have timed the notes right in the "solo" and "bridge 1"). I mastered this in little to no time, I am addicted to playing it only I play it in standard instead of tuned down a whole tone. Awesome tab, 5 stars.

Depends at how well you play I guess. I think it's playable with some practise, but if you're a beginner just forget about it, just play the chords which are 100% right.

oh man... you made this song way to complicated.
