Fairport Convention
Fotheringay (What we did on our holidays 1968)
by Marcel Veltman

Not that accurate to allow you to play with the recording, but I think these chords suit the song nicely.

Intro: Am, Dm, Em, Am (2x)

Am C F C
How often she has gazed from het castle windows all
     G Am
And watched the daylight passing
Em Am
Within her captive walls
        Dm Em Am
With no one to heed her calls

The evening hour is fading with the dwindling sun
And in these lonely moments
Those embers will be gone
And the last of all the young birds flown

Her days of precious freedom forfeited long before
To live those fruitless years
Behind a guarded door
But those days last no more

Instrumental break Am Dm G C F Dm Em Am (2x)

Am C F C
Tommorow at this hour she will be far away
      G Am
Much further than these islands
         G Am
For the lonely fotheringay

Outro Am Dm Em Am (2x)

The intro and the last line of the verse is right, all the other chords as mentioned above are very, very wrong. Here's how it goes:
C G F Am
How often she has gazed from het castle windows all
Em Am
and watched the daylight passing
G Am
Within her captive walls

Your chords are right, Geejee, but your remark that my version is very, very wrong is not. As I said, my chords don't go with the recording, but they suit the original melody well enough. And while my chords may be somewhat wrongish in a strictly musical sense, they avoid the tricky three chord changes in two measures at the beginning of each verse. My version puts the chord changes conveniently on every first count of each measure, which is, I must humbly admit, how I fake playing guitar.

Hi Marcel,

Thanks for your reply. I must admit, when I read my first reply (after having submitted it...;-(), I already thought I put it too harsh. I did not mean to offend you Marcel!

I see what you mean and how you put the chords. In the future I will read my reply first and then post it..!

My apologies, cheers!
