The song isn't exactly what you'd call "guitar-friendly," so try not to be too disappointed
if it doesn't sound a lot like the original.

Played once without vocals, then:
[Verse]
G Am Em
Happiness hit her like a train on a track...
G Am Em
Coming towards her, stuck still, no turning back...
G
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
G Am Em
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
G
With every bubble she sank with a drink
G Am Em
And washed it away down the kitchen sink
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
From here I would use open chords or preferably barre chords
G (320033 or 320003) or (355433 barre chord)
Am (x02210) or (577555 barre chord)
Em (022000)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Hook]
G
The dog days are over
G
The dog days are done
G Am
The horses are coming
Em
So you better run
[Chorus]
G
Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
G
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
G Am
Leave all your love and your longing behind
Em
You can't carry it with you if you want to survive
G
The dog days are over
G
The dog days are done
G Am
Can you hear the horses?
Em G
'Cause here they come
(silence)
[Bridge]
(quiet)
G G G Am Em
And I never wanted anything from you
G G G Am Em
Except for everything you had and what was left after that too, oh
(loud again)
G G G Am Em
Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back.....
G G G Am Em
Struck from a great height by someone who should know better than that
[Hook]
G
The dog days are over
G
The dog days are done
G Am
Can you hear the horses?
Em G
'Cause here they come
(Percussion interlude)
[Chorus]
G

G
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
G Am
Leave all your love and your longing behind

The dog days are over
G
The dog days are done
G Am
Can you hear the horses?
Em
'Cause here they come
[Outro]
G
The dog days are over
G

Alternatively, you can put at capo at the 5th fret and it all becomes D, Em, Bm.

Excellent Transcription.
I just want to comment on some of the comments. The chords here are super easy.. so using a capo is rather pointless unless you have 2 guitars and want to 'widen' the sound somewhat. And even then all you're doing is getting a different voicing of the same chords. Merely personal preference to me and not up to the person doing the tab to provide all the options.
I think we all need to understand that we are playing these songs on Guitars right? So taking a song that is produced in a multi-million dollar studio with a never ending array of instruments, sounds and musicians and breaking it down to it's basic chord structure is about all you can ask for. After that, it's up to you how you want it to sound. Not sure about anyone else, but I use these as a guide only... make it your own. Trying to sound like the record is not only pointless.. it's rather boring.
Ok. I've said my peace.. (jumps off soapbox)
Have a good one !

@Banchito the just sounded right to me mate, most of Florence's stuff is based on simple chords and I just took them and transposed them onto a rooted D-string position and it sounded pretty much dead on, more luck than anything.
And to those who say put capo on five, no offence but what the bloody hell are you on about? What can be simpler than Em Am and G. They're basic chords that most people learn within a week of playing.
Oh, and in response to lacydc, surely a capo at the 12th fret is slightly unreasonable, you'd be stretching for every chord and it'd be nigh on impossible on an acoustic. I think using octave software is best if you want a decent harp/bright sound.
Peace out.
Gag-Bob.
