[Verse 1]
D D6 Dmaj7 D6
I know I stand in line until you think you have the time
Em7 A7 Em7 A7
to spend an evening with me.
Em7 A7 Em7 A7
And if we go some place to dance, I know that there's a chance
D D6 Dmaj7 D6
you won't be leaving with me.
[Chorus 1]
D7 Am7 D7
And afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
G* Bb*
and have a drink or two,
Em7 A7 Em7 A7
and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid
D D6 Dmaj7 D6
like I love you.
[Bridge]
D7 Am D7
I can see it in your eyes that you despise the same old lines
G G
you heard the night before.
E7 Bm E7
And though it's just a line to you for me it's true
Bm A7 A7+5
and never seemed so right before.
[Verse 2]
D D6 Dmaj7 D6
I practice every day to find some clever lines to say
Em7 A7 Em7 A7
to make the meaning come true.
Em7 A7 Em7 A7
But then I think I'll wait until the evening gets late
D D6 Dmaj7 D6
and I'm alone with you.
[Chorus 2]
D7 Am7 D7
The time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get red
G* Bb*
and, oh, the nights so blue.
Em7 A7 Em7 A7
And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid
D D6 Dmaj7 D6
like I love you.
[Strings Solo]

[End-Chorus]

The time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get red

D D6 Bb
like I love you,
D D6 Bb
I love you,

I love you,

Definitely the best one for me. The music is supposed to move in this piece and this chord selection does it. Thanks for taking the time to add this. (I think a lot of people get stuck going to the highest rating and never moving down the line, but I always go check out the later stop that was added, and sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s not so good, but there are quite a few times like this where it pays off. They should have much higher than 28 or whatever it is ratings)

awesome version, very well done

At the bridge, I am not sure there's a misprint there, but I don't hear a major7th there at all. The minor 7th sounds closer.
