Mattie's Rag
Gerry Rafferty

Notes:
This was originally recorded by Gerry Rafferty in the key of D minor. I have tabbed it
in A minor. If you wish to play in Dm then set capo to fret 5.

The Cmaj7 is a passing chord and is played on the just the fourth beat of the bar i.e.
¦C C C Cmaj7¦Am Am Am Am¦ etc.

The Dsus4 chord is played on the first two beats of the bar ¦D D D D¦Dsus4 Dsus4 D D¦.
Consider it optional as I'm not sure Gerry Rafferty played it but I think it sounds good.

Am E
Oh Mattie you open up the door
Dm7 C Cmaj7
That's right I'm home again
Am E
You've got a big surprise in store
Dm7 C
Turn 'round and count to ten.

F
Wait till you see what I got you, well
D Dsus4 D
You’ll say it's a magic thing, it’s
F
Like an old mandolin man, you just
G G7
Wind him up and he’ll start to sing.

Am E
I've been away for quite a while
Dm7 C Cmaj7
And I want to hear all your news
Am E
Speak to me, let me see you smile
Dm7 C
'Cause I've had those home sick blues.

F
When I go down to the city
D Dsus4 D
I just don't know wrong from right
F
When I get back to you Mattie, well
G G7
You make me see the light.

Am E Dm7 C Cmaj7
Am E Dm7 C

F
Love is a singular thing, it can
D Dsus4 D
Take you up or bring you down, yes
F
Love is the song that I sing, so come
G G7
On now Mattie listen to the sound.

Am E
When you grow up we'll sit and talk
Dm7 C Cmaj7
Of how things used to be
Am E
I'll be your grand old man of rock
Dm7 C Cmaj7
  With all these memories.

Am E Dm7 C Cmaj7 ...and fade
