You'll want a capo on fret 3 for this song for the original key.
Listen to the song on Youtube for strum patterns and timings.
I tend to use A and A7 chords interchangeably for whatever strikes my ear as the
best at the time.

Intro:| D |(4x)

                Em A D
One day, little girl, the sadness will leave your face
                  Em A D
As soon as you've won your fight to get justice done

                  Em A D
Some days, little girl, you'll wonder what life's about
                Em A D
But others have known, few battles are won alone

So you'll look around to find someone who's kind
someone who's fearless like you
The pain of it will ease a bit when you find a man with True Grit

                 Em A D
One day you will rise and you won't believe your eyes
                   Em A D
You'll wake up and see, a world that is fine and free.

                    C D
Though summer seems far away
                C D
You'll find the sun one day

| Em | A | D | D | Em | A | D | D |

                    C D
Though summer seems far away
                C D
You'll find the sun one day

| C | D |

Pretty accurate. A few of minor details I think improve the sound, though:

- In the verses, go from an A to an A7 before going to D
- At the end of the second verse, go to a D7 (saw him do this on a live video from the Johnny Cash show)
- In the middle eight, go from a G to a Gmaj7 (354433), then change from a C to a Cmaj7 (x32000) a couple times, hammering back on the B-string 1st fret to go back to C. It just varies the sound up and more accurately simulates the full arrangement when playing on a solo guitar.

Great song! It and the score by co-writer Elmer Bernstein are the main reasons I stick with the original film over the remake.
