E7 Am
When I was just a little young boy,
D G
Papa said son, you'll never get far,
E7 Am
Tell you the reason, if you wanna know,
      D
Cause child of mine,
      C Cm D G
There isn't really very far to go.

E7 Am
Well, baby baby wants a gold diamond ring,
D G
Wants it more than most any old thing,
E7 Am
Well when I get those jelly-roll blues,
D C Cm D G
Why I go and get anything in this world for you.

E7 Am
Down to the jewelry store packin' a gun,
D G
Says, "Wrap it up I think I'll take this one."
E7 Am
"A thousand dollars please," the jewelry man said,
D C Cm D G
Dupree he said, "I'll pay this one off to you in lead."

G D C G
Well you know son, you just can't figure,
Am G D C G
First thing you know you're gonna to pull that trigger,
G F# F E
And it's no wonder, your reason goes bad,
Am D G C G
Jelly-roll will drive you so mad.

E7 Am
Judge said, "Son, it's gonna cost you some time."
D G
Dupree said, "Judge you know that crossed my mind."
E7 Am
Judge said, "Fact it's gonna cost you your life."
D C Cm D G
Dupree said, "Judge you know that seems to me to be about right."

E7 Am
Baby baby you gonna lose her sweet man,
D G
Dupree come out with a losin' hand,
E7 Am
Baby's gonna weep it up for a while,
D C Cm D G
Then go out and find another sweet man's gonna treat her with style.

E7 Am
Judge said, "Son, I know your baby well,
D G
But that's a secret I can never tell."
E7 Am
Dupree said, "Judge well it's well understood,
D C Cm D G
But you got to admit that sweet sweet Jelly's so good."

G D C G
Well you know son, you just can't figure,
Am G D C G
First thing you know you're gonna to pull that trigger,
G F# F E
And it's no wonder, your reason goes bad,
Am D G C G
Jelly-roll will drive you so mad.

E7 Am
Same old story and I know it's been told,
D G
Some like Jelly Jelly, some like gold,
E7 Am
Many a man's done a terrible thing
D C Cm D G
Just to get, baby a shinin' diamond ring.

This is a good tab, but it should be a C and Cm for the last part of each verse....also I think the E and F# is unnecessary and sounds fine playing C Cm D G
