I think the pre chorus should actually go Am E C F F G but I might be wrong

tuning is supposed to be an open Major C

Play the bass movement on the heavy C (your E normally) and then mute the heavy G (your A normally)
let the other ring according to the interpretation.
in a nutshell it gives for the bass 0 - 2 - 5 then 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 5 - 7 and back to the chorus/verse pattern
