Always wanted to learn this haunting tune. I am pretty sure that the first chord is Emin(add 2) which sounds good in this format: Make a barre chord Emin7 rooted on the A string (7th fret) and then put your pinky on the 11th fret G string. It’s a stretch but that chord is what gives it that haunting vibe. Sounds good if you pick the strings up and down individually. I assume that the version everyone is familiar with is from the animated Hobbit movie. I think a lot of these chords are not exactly right or need extensions but thanks for the jumping off point.
