How are you supposed to position you fingers for the first part of the song with the following:
------------------
---------0--------
-----4-----4------
-------2-----2----
---4-----------4--
-5----------------

I have a finger placement that works but it hurts my hand badly and hard to get into place quickly

To chugrye, the reason it's hard to play is because that part is tabbed incorrectly it should be

------------------------------------
---------0----------------0---------
-----4-----4----------4-----4-------
---2---2-----2------2---2-----2-----
-4-------------4--0-------------0---
------------------------------------

This is the way incubus plays it on the live acoustic video on youtube. I just started learning this song today, so I can't comment as to the accuracy of the rest of this tab, but in my experience there has never been an accurate tab on UG ever of anything. official tab books are also almost always incorrect and do things like the problem above where they print tabs that are difficult/impossible to play. the only real source for good tabs is to go on youtube and sometimes the original artists will give a lesson on their own songs--more often than you know. or get a tab off this site and find a video of the artist playing it and compare.

as you probably know, all notes on the 5th fret can be played as an open on the string below it (except for the B string, for that string it's the 4th fret).
