[Lyrics]
Fm
Yeah! His guitar slung across his back
His dusty boots is his cadillac
Flamin' hair just a-blowin' in the wind
ain't seen a bed in so long it's a sin
C#7#9
He left home when he was seventeen
The rest of the world he was gonna see
Fm
And everybody knows the boss
a rollin' stone gathers no moss

G#
Now you'd probably a-call him a tramp
A#
But it goes a little deeper than that
Fm
He's a highway chile
Highway Chile

Fm
Some people say he had a girl back home
who messed around and did her baby wrong
They tell it kinda hurt him bad
Kinda made him feel pretty sad
I couldn't say what went through his mind
Anyway he left the world behind
Everybody knows the same old story
in love or war you can lose your glory

G#
Now you'd probably a-call him a tramp
A#
But I know it goes a little deeper than that
He's a highway chile

Walk on brother

C#7#9
His old guitar slung across his back
His dusty boots is his cadillac
Fm
Flamin' hair just a-blowin' in the wind
ain't seen a bed in so long it's a sin

G#
Now you'd probably a-call him a tramp
A#
But I know it goes a little deeper than that
He's a highway chile

Walk on brother
Don't let no one stop you
Highway Child

^ On Electric Ladyland, the song was originally called "Voodoo Child". When a news crew came in to watch the band and record them, the band decided to revamp Voodoo Child and shortened it, made it harder, and called it "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)". Both are on the album.

what do the numbers in parentheses in the beginning mean? i thought it meant an optional note but that doesn't make sense.
