[VERSE 1]
D D* Bm

D D* Bm
As valiant a man as ever left home
Em5* Em4* Em*
And he had been much reduced, And caused great confusion
D D* Bm D* Bm D* Bm
And that was the reason he started to roam

[VERSE 2]
D D* Bm
In Yorkshire near Rotherham, he had been on the ramble
D D* Bm
Weary of traveling, he sat down to rest
Em5* Em4* Em*
By the foot of yon mountain, Lays a clear flowing fountain
D D* Bm D* Bm D* Bm
With bread and cold water he himself did refresh

[VERSE 3]
D D* Bm
With the night fast approaching, to the woods he resorted
D D* Bm
With woodbine and ivy his bed for to make
Em5* Em4* Em*
But he dreamt about sighing, Lamenting and crying
D D* Bm D* Bm D* Bm
Go home to your family and rambling forsake

[VERSE 4]
D D* Bm
'Twas the fifth day of November, I've reason to remember
D D* Bm
When first he arrived home to his family and friends
Em5* Em4* Em*
And they did stand so astounded, Surprised and dumbfounded
D D* Bm D* Bm D* Bm
To see such a stranger once more in their sight

[VERSE 5]
D D* Bm
And his children come around him with their prittle prattling stories
D D* Bm
With their prittle prattling stories to drive care away
Em5* Em4* Em*
And he's as happy as those, As have thousands of riches
D D* Bm D* Bm D* Bm
Contented he'll remain and not ramble away

[VERSE 6]

D D* Bm
As valiant a man as ever left home

I really appreciate this arrangement of this song. To me it sounds perfect. I have had a few attempts to work it out over the years but it needs DADGAD to sound right. Nice easy chord shapes and the changes seem to fall at the right time in the melody. Many thanks. Blair.
