Am C
An old cowboy went ridin' in one dark and windy day.
   Am
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way.

When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw,
F Dm Am
Plowin' through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw.
      Am C
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel.
      Am
Their hornes were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel.

A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky,
       F Dm Am
For he saw the riders comin' hard, and he heard their mournful cry.
Am C Am
Yippie-yi-yo, yippie-yi-yay.
F Dm Am
Ghost riders in the sky.

      Am
Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred,
      C
Their shirts all soaked with sweat.
     Am
He's ridin' hard to catch that heard but he ain't caught 'em yet,

'Causet they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky.
   F Dm Am
On horses snortin' fire, as they ride on hear their cry.
       Am C
As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name.
        Am
"If you wanna save your soul from hell, a ridin' on our range,

Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride,
F Dm Am
Tryin' to catch the devil's herd a-cross these endless skies."
Am C Am
Yippie-yi-yo, yippie-yi-yay.
F Dm Am
Ghost riders in the sky.
F Dm Am
Ghost riders in the sky.
F Dm Am
Ghost riders in the sky.

I think you're missing a couple of chords in the verse: The way you have it, it goes Am ->C ->Am and then you're staying on Am for the rest of the next two lines. I think you forgot a C in the second line.
so It should be more like this:

Am C
An old cowboy went ridin' in one dark and windy day.
Am C
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way.
Am
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw,
F Dm Am
Plowin' through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw.

I also think that Dm is more implied than fully fretted, basically like a ghost note type thing leading into the Am. Not sure on that one.

Otherwise, nice job, thanks!

i think there's a few extra hits of a note like when there is 5 d2 when it sounds best with 3 d2 1 d0 but other wise it is the most in-depth on here so good job

The cords are right. What happens with the missing C cord, is the vocals raise, and another instrument but not the guitar cord.
The D is a ghost cord to accent the song. Usually played by another instrument. You can actually just hit the D note (2nd string 3rd fret) while holding the F cord, then go to A minor. That way there is no cord change, just the ghost. And it sounds awesome.

The lead can be played in so many different ways. It was never even written in the original song until, I'm not sure, but I think Johnny Cash. Great song.
