The rhythm guitar riffs on this song come straight out of the Hybrid Theory/Meteora
playbook, but still sound different because they're played on a Strat. Very simple guitar
duties, Guitars 1 and 2 play all the rhythm work and Guitar 3 comes in during the
choruses for some high-register stuff on the B and E strings (which is a more "recent
Linkin Park
history" style of guitar work, reminiscent of Iridescent and a couple other songs). In
terms of stuff to watch out for, pay attention to how the "turnaround" part at the end of
the intro riff plays the same thing twice, with one chord changed - the F5 becomes an
F#5 on the second repeat. This theme carries over into the first verse, where both variations
are used (the F#5 variation is played on the second line of the verse, while the F5 one
is played on the first, third, and fourth lines). Because the guitar sits out the second
line of the second verse, the F#5 variation isn't found there. Watch out for how the end
of the second chorus is different from the end of the first chorus, and for how the last
chorus uses a different chord progression from the first two altogether. The bridge also
uses an add9 variation on the G5 chords, which is something Brad doesn't do very often
anymore. The last line of the bridge ends on an A5 which leads into the final chorus.
Coming out of the final chorus, Guitars 1 and 2 play the muted part from the intro riff, but
skip the
first muted strum since it's displaced by the last 7x9 octave. I'm sure some people will
also question if that high-register arpeggiated stuff in the verses is guitar - it's
not. Lastly, this song has a swing feel to it, just like When They Come For Me. I've
tabbed the song with "straight" 4/4 notation for simplicity's sake, once you get a feel
for the
song it's not hard to get the strumming down.
