Joanne: Michael Nesmith (formerly of The Monkees)
This was a great song that made the Top 40 in 1970.
[Verse]
C Am F G7
Her name was Joanne and she lived in the meadow
C Am F G7
by a pond.
C Am F
And she touched me for a moment with a look that
G7 C Am7 F G7
spoke to me of her sweet love.
Dm G7 C C/B Am
Then the woman that she was drove her on with desperation,
Dm7 G7 C C/B Am
And I saw, as she went, a most hopeless situation,
F Fm G G7
for Joanne and the man, and the time that made
C
them both run.
[Verse]
C Am F G7
She was only a girl. I know that well, but still
C Am F G7
I could not see
C Am F
That the hold that she had was much stronger than
G7 C Am F G
the love she felt for me.
Dm G7 C C/B Am
But staying with her, and my little bit of wisdom,
Dm7 G7 C C/B Am
broke down her desires like a light through a prism,
F Fm G G7
into yellows and blues and a tune that I could
C
not have sung.
[Bridge]
Am Dm
Though the essence is gone, I have no tears to
cry for her.
F G7
And my only thoughts of her are kind.
[Verse]
And I saw, as she went, a most hopeless situation,
F Fm G G7

them both run

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. This is a beautiful song. He did a long version on Austin City Limits in the early 90's that's just nothing short of a stand up performance.
