I feel like this is closest to the studio version and since the time signature is a little confusing I think an in-depth explanation will help beginners to better understand this song. Was this info helpful?

For better understanding, I will just start by giving you the chord progressions for verse and chorus as well
as the little rundown connecting the chorus to the verse. Since I believe that this song is not only beautiful
but also very friendly for beginners, this version will be a little longer and more in-depth. However, you
can play the entire song without using any bar chords. Sorry in advance for poor language, I'm german.

[Intro]

Am Am Am Am
C/G C/G C/G C/G

[Verse]

Am C/G C/G C/G

This is played through the entire verse.

You can play C/G like a normal open C Chord. Just use your pinky on the A-string instead of your ring finger
and put your ring finger on the third thread of the E-string

e|---0---|
B|---1---|
G|---0---|
D|---2---|
A|---3---|
E|---3---|

As a style choice to add diversity to the verse you can add a hammer-on, on the D-String, switching from a
C/Gsus2 to C/G.

e|---0--|
B|---1--|
G|---0--|
D|---0h2|
A|---3--|
E|---3--|

Not too important especially since we're strumming but adds a little spice.

[Pre-Chorus]

This is the only time where the strumming pattern changes, however, you may continue playing it with the same
pattern. To lead to the chorus you just strum C/G 4 times with this pattern: down - down;up

[Chorus]

F7 C C G
F7 C Am G
F7 C G G
F7 C G G
F7 C G

The last G in the Chorus is only strummed once.

You can play F7 like this.

e|---0--|
B|---1--|
G|---2--|
D|---3--|
A|---x--|
E|---x--|

Rundown connecting chorus to the verse:

Am G C C C
Am G C C C

Strum Am and G once, then continue with your strumming pattern. Am and G are played within the same bar.
A shortened version is used at the very end of the song. The second line replaces the first line of the verse.
In the stuido version it is covered by a cymbal but it sounds like they play it twice.

[Bridge]

Am Am Am Am
C/G C/G C/G C/G
Am Am Am Am
C/G C/G

The bridge leads straight into the prechorus for the second chorus.

Here are all the chords in the song with the lyrics.

[Intro]

Am Am Am Am
We'd howl ooh
C/G C/G C/G C/G
ooh

[Verse]

Am C/G C/G
We'd run about
C/G Am
summer in the night town
C/G C/G
We make no sound
    C/G Am C/G C/G
And deep in the forest we get lost
C/G Am C/G C/G C/G
Whistle to the birds as they call
Am C/G
  Go on trips
C/G C/G Am C/G C/G
Moving with the weather as it shifts
C/G Am C/G C/G
We took to the seas and let it drift
C/G Am C/G C/G
How many islands could we hear?

[Pre-Chorus]

1, 2, 3, 4

[Chorus]
F7 C
I'd follow you
C G F7 C

On and on we go, my brother I've got you
G G F7 C
Nothing to stop us now, because we found in life

What's true

Oh my brother I'd follow you

Rundown connecting chorus to the verse:

  In my faded truck
C/G Am C/G C/G
Shot across the country to find our luck
C/G Am C/G C/G
The youth inside would scream and shout
C/G Am C/G C/G C/G
Like a dagger in the heart we ripped it out

[Bridge]
           Am Am
And we had howl through the night
         Am Am C/G
Call the stars by the fire shining on
            C/G
Through the night
        C/G C/G Am
We will run, to the rising life and on
            Am Am
Through the night, burn the flames
    Am C/G C/G
The world will know our Names

[Pre-Chorus]

F7 C
I'd follow you
C G F7 C
To the end of the world if only you would ask me to
