think it is a regular C (-> without plugging the low e on the 3d fret). Cuz he has a little funny buisness going on when he is picking strings in the first verse. he's like using his pinky to plug the B string from time to time which gives it a different sound (while picking). just try it ;)

You're right.But if you check out some live performances, you'll see that this is the way he plays the C in the chorus. Furthermore it sounds better.
