      G
I was looking at guitars
                         Am7
Opposite the place where people sign their dole forms
                              G
And I walked out through them doors
                          Am7
Struck a light out on the corner in stone silence
                     C/g D
And I saw a man with no center of balance
                           G
Going where they take your name
                                        D
And I wondered how it is not to be one, because I've been one
      Em D C
And I know it isn't all just working class
                  D G
So I joined them, and daylight turned to stars

I was checking out the next girl
On the seat in front, with a dress like a palm tree lover
And she spoke of plans ahead
Voice and mouth in a race, with a trace of Spanish above her
And in my mind I put my eyes under the cover
And I knew I was alone
But I wondered why she stayed
And so supremely, she must have seen me looking
Still I stepped aside to let her pass
And then we parted, and the lights all turned to stars

I's walking from the brick house
With the green light shouting words as I walked onwards
And I stepped into an offy
'Cause I like a beer, perhaps more than I should
Saw a poor man outside wearing less than I would
On a cold november day
And I asked him why he dressed
With so little on his chest and he told me
That his father has a house of gold and brass
C/g D D7 Em C/g D
Then he faded and disappeared as I left fast
            D7 Em C/g D
'Cause only some of us are looking at the stars
            D7 G
'Cause only some of us are looking at the stars
