Mark would play with on only two strings, putting the D and G strings into the regular A and D slots and tuning the G up one step. Thusly, the song would play like such:

A----------|-----------
D-0--0-0-0-|-0--0------

And the 'different note' is as follows:

A----------|-------------
D-0--0-0-0-|-0--1~-------
