Chole Dancer / Crown of Thorns
By Mother Love Bone, covered by Pearl Jam on a regular basis

CHLOE DANCER

Piano intro/verse, transcribed for guitar, standard tuning
(NB: if the big reach back to 2 on the low E string is too much, you can capo fret 2 but
then remove the capo when you transition to Crown of Thorns; ALTERNATELY play this
intro transposed down two frets so you can use the open E string, but then the transition to Crown of Thorns
is more dissonant since you still need to get to fret 5 base for those chords)

Chloe don’t know better
Chloe’s just like me (only beautiful)
A couple of years’ difference
But those lessons never learned (and you know)

Chloe danced the tables
In the French quarter
She’s always been given
So I can’t always make her laugh

But I’m proud to say
And I won’t forget
Time spent layin by her side (ooh)
The time spent layin by her side (ooh)

Dreams like this must die
And a dream like this must die
Dream like this must. . .

G|-----7-----6-----5-----4-----0-----|
D|-----7-----7-----5-----5-----0-----|
A|-----X-----X-----X-----X-----5-----|
E|-----5-----5-----3-----3-----3-----|
(NB: the main verse and chorus progressions are basically Hendrix-esque power chords,
use your thumb on the bass E string and to mute the A string. Many interpretations
don’t include the bass notes, but I think it makes the song sound fuller especially if you’re solo,
short a guitar or playing on acoustic. G5 can also be played 3X503X, but I think the version above
is better differentiated from the G. I often let the e and A string ring in the A chords and the
e string ring in the G chords for fullness. There are many good tab versions of the usual three
string version of the verse/chorus part of the song, this is how I play it.)

(NB: can let e, B, and G strings ring as applicable through entire section for fullness or if down a guitar;
can play A5 as 577XXX if you prefer)

A|-----7-----10----X-----X-----0-----X-----|
E|-----0-----0-----8-----7-----X-----10----|
(NB: all these chord shapes are to compensate for the bass notes that aren’t there when playing solo – Jeff
seems to just play around with the low E string 8-10-8-7-5, and 8-10-8-7-10--| and I’m not sure the guitar
actually plays these chords, but it sounds fuller this way with one guitar)

Again, again, again
So I’m singing

(NB: the first two notes of the last lick, the A pentatonic scale on the E string, might
actually be just a palm muted 5-7 on the A string, but I think this sounds closer – also,
the first and final harmonic note can also be played on fret 12 on the B string or fret 4 on the G string
or any other variant of B – it is just feedback but tonally a B note – harmonic was the closest I could find.)

Hi. Awesome tab! An alternate way to play Chloe Dancer is to tune down a half step. This makes the riff based off an open DSus2 shape. Then for Crown Of Thorns transpose everything up one fret. You do have to omit the open Low E's that way. Cheers! eb---------------0--------------------0-----------0------| Bb---------3--------3-----3--------3--------3------------| Gb------2-----2--------2--------2--------------2---------| Db---------------------------------------0---------------| Ab---0-----------------------2---------------------------| Eb-------------------------------------------------------| eb---------------0-----------------------0---------------| Bb---------3--------3-----3--------3--------3-----3------| Gb------2-----2--------2--------2-----2--------2---------| Db-------------------------------------------------------| Ab-------------------------------------------------------| Eb---3-----------------------3---------------------------|

ComaAlpha
finally a tab with the solo. Even if I don't learn it how Stone and/or Bruce plays it, it at least gives me an idea of which scales to play around with. THANK YOU!
