Capo: 4th fret
[Intro] C
Intro riff is simply alternating hammer-ons on the D & G strings. Pretty easy if
you just listen to it.
[Verse 1]
F C Am C
It came to the end it seems you had heard.
F C
Cause we walked the city streets,
Am C
You never said a word.
F C
When we finally sat down
Am C
Your eyes were full of spite.
F C
I was desperate, I was weak
Am C
I could not put up a fight.
[Chorus]
F C
Where are you now?
Am C
Where are you now?
F C
Do you ever think of me
Am C
In the quiet, in the crowd?
*(This chord progression continues through the entire song)
[Verse 2]
You were strangely less in pain
Than you were cold.
Triumphant in your mind
Of the logic that you hold.
You said no one would ever know
The love that we had shared.
As I took my leave to go
It was clear that you didn't care.
[Chorus]
F C
Where are you now?
Am C
Where are you now?
F C
Do you ever think of me
Am C
In the quiet, in the crowd?
F C
Where are you now?
Am C
Where are you now?
F C
Do you ever think of me
Am C
In the quiet, in the crowd?
[Verse 3]
And I hear of your coming and your going in the town.
I hear stories of your smile,
I hear stories of your frown.
And the darkness can descend,
We can relish all the pain.
But I know that's what you love,
Cause you know I love the same.
[Chorus]
F C
Where are you now?
Am C
Where are you now?
F C
Do you ever think of me
Am C
In the quiet, in the crowd?
F C
Where are you now?

The intro is played with a C chord with hammer-ons as follows:
e----------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------
G-------0h2------0-------------0h2-------------
D--0h2------0h2------------0h2-----0h2---------
A---------------------------------------3------
E----------------------------------------------
While playing the intro with this tab, keep your fingers in the C position. Try and incorporate the strumming of the C chord in as you pluck the melody.
This beautiful song is one of my favourites by Mumford and Sons because, like all their songs, it has so much meaning. I believe this song is about Marcus Mumford's ex-girlfriend Laura Marling who was once part of the band and dated Marcus for a bit. He actually writes about her in many songs. In the song, Marcus is just wondering what's up, and would like to get in touch because he misses her.
