It would make more sense if the A chord played during "And do you think you deserve your freedom?" Was the bar chord
A: x77655
as, when you listen to the arpeggio played in the song, you can hear the A note played on the high e string. (The arpeggios go something like this in the song).

A A A A
e|------------|------------|------------|5-----------|
B|------5-----|------5-----|------5-----|--5---5-----|
G|----6---6---|----6---6---|----6---6---|----6---6---|
D|--7-------7-|--7-------7-|--7-------7-|----------7-|
A|0-----------|7-----------|0-----------|------------|
D|------------|------------|------------|------------|
