I met Ruby on a bus from state to state
Am
She was tired
    Em
I was timid
         C G F#
It was late
Am Em C G F#
She was to marry her southland sweetheart
Am Em
bitter-sweet I am
         C G F#
when it comes to young love
Am Em C G F#

in the state of Burley Down
      Am Em C G F#
And I saw him leaving slowly with a young man at his hip
Am Em
Where did my love go?

He was the sailor of my ship

And Jimmy was the best she ever had
Am Em
When you think you cannot breath
C G F#
and you know you'd rather die instead
Am Em
That's when you know you have to go,
C G F#
and he knew he had to leave
Am Em
So in the state of where you are
C
roll up the windows
        G F# Am Em C G F#
saying drive an old blue car
Am Em
Ruby does he hold you like

he held me so
C
After, does he rub your back
     G F#
and sing ya slow?
Am Em
Take ya to highest high and
        C G F#
lowest low?
    Am Em C G F#
Oh, Ruby, I don't think so
Am Em C G F#
James was a well-known man around town
Am Em
He sold houses to the masses
        C G F#
in the state of Burley Down
      Am Em C G F#
And I saw him leaving slowly with a young man at his hip

Not sure if it is exactly like the album, but as an alternative to the F# (20000x), it also sounds nice to play a D with an F# in the bass like this: 200232.
