Song: Motherland
Artist: Natalie Merchant
Capo: 1st fret
Tuning: standard

How to play: first hit lowest bass-string you should play on the chord, then the
chord completely twice. Just listen to the track, it's really easy.

[Verse 1]

Em G C G
Where in hell can you go, far from the things that you know,
C G D
Far from this sprawl of concrete that keeps crawling it's way,
'Bout a thousand miles a day.

[Verse 2]

Em G C G
Take one last look behind, commit this to memory and mind,
C G D
Don't miss this wasteland, this terrible place, when you leave,
Keep your heart off your sleeve.

G D C G
Motherland cradle me, close my eyes lullaby me to sleep,
         C G D
Keep me safe, lie with me -- stay beside me don't go, don't you go

[Verse 3]

Em G C G
My five and dime queen, tell me what have you seen,
C G D
The lust and the avarice the bottomless, the cavernous greed,
Is that what you see?

ATTENTION: replace the "don't you go" with the start of the bridge:

C G
It's your happiness -- I want most of all
C Am D
And for that I'd do anything at all. Oh mercy me.
                 C G
If you want the best of life and the most of love,
C Am D
If there is anything I can do at all.

[Instrumental Chorus]

[Verse 4]

Em G C G
Now, Come on shotgun bride, what makes me envy your life,
C G D
The faceless the nameless the innocent the blameless and free,
What's that like to be?
                                      D Em
First chorus 2x; end final time with: Don’t go ... Don't go...

Great tab, but the capo's on the first fret, not the second. Thanks!

The second chord in the verse is not G, it is Bm. Gotta have the B minor.
