Verse 1 (D-E-F#m):
D E F#m
I know this will mess things up tonight
     D E F#m
But god it feels so good to close my eyes
I'll say that I've been trying to move on
We both know I'm not

D Bm D A
A B A

Refrain:
    D F#m A Bm
It may be different now but the pattern won't wash out
D F#m
Covers up our eyes, leaves us knots and severed ties
           A B
We follow new lines

Verse 2 (D-E-F#m):

I would trade this sleep for you in a heartbeat
But this weather will not lift
It leaves us shouting into cliffs without an echo

Verse 3 (D-E-F#m):

Each day you come closer
So close I can almost feel your breath on my shoulders
But I know if I turn around you might run away again

Refrain:
     D F#m A Bm
It may be different now but the pattern won't wash out
D F#m
Covers up our eyes, leaves us knots and severed ties
           A Bm
We follow new lines

Verse 4:
F#m D F#m
Stuck like those prehistoric mammoths in the ice
         D F#m
Thaw me out and I won't close my eyes
                   A F#m
Stuck like those prehistoric mammals in the ice
         D F#m D
Thaw me out and I won't go to sleep tonight

I think you're supposed to play it in drop d You can hear it especially in Verse 4, where it starts on the F# power chord and drops down to a D power chord. You can't get the same effect playing normal chords in standard tuning
