Pain Of Salvation - Scarsick
From the album: Scarsick
Transcribed by: Travis Lausch

This song's guitar parts are all about texture. I couldn't even be bothered
to tab out a lot of the parts, because they're either buried in the mix, or
there are so many of them that are really playing nothing. I haven't included
the order of the riffs or anything, you'll have to figure that out
yourselves. And it should be really goddamn easy to do that. I used a couple
of live videos to confirm hand positions in the intro and other riffs.

So basically, the trick to this song is to "feel" it. This isn't your typical
"precise" prog-metal song. The guitars are almost purely textural in this
song.

There are plenty of guitar noises involving bending the string with wah in
this section. I can't be bothered to tab them all out, but they're pretty much based
the 7th fret on the 4th string, and occasionally following
the chord progression of the chorus. The part is occasionally played with
power chords as well, rather than just single notes.

This is really good, but I have just a couple of things that I think make it sound better.

Instead of a boring standard powerchord here, it makes it sound a whole lot more brutal to use a major third, like so.

And you got this part flat out wrong.

It should be: (Plus additional voicings to suit my tastes)

"Making it sound more brutal" and making it sound correct are two different things, mate. And the major third diads are definitely not used.

As for riff 4, I don't hear the major third harmonies over the layers and layers of vocal harmonies, but from reviewing live footage, we're both wrong on this since Daniel and Johan seem to play it up in the 12th position. I think it's less likely that they're playing those massive chords, and instead, playing a harmony with one another.

Thank you for your input, though.
