I‘m always a bit hesitant about chiming in, because 1) people get defensive, and 2) I don’t want to bet THAT guy - who immediately jumps in and say “Wrong!” (or worse), without offering any help or showing any appreciation for the time and effort someone else has put in.

While most songs with chords of C, F and G are in C, this one is actually in the key of G: G is the I chord, F is a bVII chord, and C is the IV chord. The way you can tell is that when you play the C, it feels a bit unresolved, and “wants” to resolve to the G. G feels like “home.” The same structure is found in the verses of “Sympathy For The Devil.”
