The recording features a variation of Hi-String tuning.
 
High-strung (Nashville) guitar

 -one octave higher-
    than standard
 
This special tuning requires a re-stringing of the guitar with light
gauge strings. The 3rd-string (G) is now the highest pitched and will
need to be 008 or 009.
 
For this song Gilmour took the idea a little further and replaced the
6th-string with a string tuned two octaves higher than standard.
 
Now a very simple picking pattern produces the angular melody.
