Song of Purple Summer from Spring Awakening
This is a simplified version designed for people who just want to have something with
to sing along. Please edit.

G
And all shall fade
G
The flowers of spring
Dm
The world and all the sorrow
F
At the heart of everything

G
But still it stays
G
The butterflies sings
Dm
And opens purple summer
F
With the flutter of its wings

	Cm Dm	C Dm	G
The Earth will wave with corn
	Cm Dm	C Dm G
The gray- fly choir will mourn
	Cm Dm	C Dm
And mares will neigh with
G Dm Bb F C
Stallions that they mate, foals they've borne
Bb F G
And all shall know the wonder of purple summer

G
And yet I wait
G
The swallow brings
Dm
A song too hard to follow
F
That no one else can sing

G
The fences sway
G
The porches swing
Dm
The clouds begin to thunder
F
Crickets wander, murmuring

	Cm Dm	C Dm	G
The Earth will wave with corn
	Cm Dm	C Dm G
The gray- fly choir will mourn
	Cm Dm	C Dm
And mares will neigh with
G Dm Bb F C
Stallions that they mate, foals they've born

Bb F
And all shall know the wonder
Bb G
I will sing the song of purple summer
Bb F
All shall know the wonder
Bb G
I will sing the song of purple summer
Bb F G
All shall know the wonder of purple summer.

Well I'm really glad someone tabbed this out since its such a great song and I wanted to play it acoustic, so thanks! But it doesn't really sound right to me. Maybe it has to do with me being too beginner to make smooth changes to Cm and Bb, but only some of the chords work for me. I think there's an E or Esus somewhere in the chord progressions to because I figured out the intro a while ago and it uses the Esus -333-- strummed 65432123432. Anyways I'm the worst person to "correct" this since I don't tab well myself, but at least now you can have the intro if you want to cause it sounds pretty good.

In the chorus, instead of going Cm-Dm-Cm-Dm, it sounds as if it is doing something else. The first two chords are right, but the next two, especially the last Dm, sound as if they should be something else. I don't know what, but that part just doesn't sound quite right. Other than that it's perfect.

if you're into soloing on guitar you can do parts of the melody with the G and D chords. For example strumming the G with open b string, then on the 1, then open, then on the 3 for the beginning part.

playing a dsus2 after the Dm sounds nice
I may be totally wrong, but C sounds much better than F, alternating occasionally with Cadd9 (3 on the b string)

for the chorus I think Cm barre chord on 3 sounds way better, and I don't even think the chord changes to a Dm, maybe Csus2 instead?
the C after that sounds right on, but the Dm after it sounds off, I think Cadd9 sounds better right before the G
