there's a music video and on the banjo he plays it on capo 2- but are the strings on a banjo different tunings?

The banjo in this song is tuned to open G, as most plectrum banjos are. The video in which Sufjan plays with a capo on the second fret is merely a step down from the studio version. Chords are correct.
