Em9 E Em9 E
You want to know how it will be
Em9 E Em9 E
Me and her or you and me
F#m Cmaj 7
You both stand there your long hair flowing
F#m Cmaj 7
Eyes alive your mind still growing
F#m Em7 A A9
Saying to me what can we do now that we both love you
I love you too
A A9 Em9 E
And I don't really see why can't we go on as three
Em9 E Em9 E
You are afraid embarrassed too
Em9 E Em9 E
No one has ever said such a thing to you
F#m Cmaj 7
Your mother's ghost stands at your shoulders
F#m Cmaj 7
A face like ice a little bit colder
F#m Em7
Saying to you you can not do that
A
It breaks all the rules you learned in school
A A9 Em9 E
But I don't really see why can't we go on as three
Em9 E Em9 E
We love each other it's plain to see
Em9 E Em9 E
There's just one answer that comes to me
F#m Cmaj 7 F#m Cmaj 7
Sisters lovers water brothers and in time maybe others
F#m Em7 A
So you can see what can we do is to try something new
If your crazy too
A A9 Em9
And I don't really see why can't we go on as three

I wonder if you played the Em9 on the 7th fret (070070) and then played an Em7 (020030) on the 2nd fret if this might work a bit better. Sounds better to my ears.

David Crosby plays Em9 at the fifth fret (050077) and E at the 7th fret (079990)x4 ; F#m (244222), CM7 (332000) x2; F#m (244222) Em7 (020030) A harmonic (x 12 14 14 14 12) A (577655) A9 (545005). High octaves are key to the sound, note above fret 5 and open strings together.
Play on the neck where you can sing comfortably, he could hit the high notes, but Em7 at the second fret is used only after F#m. F#m was the only barre chord he played. Everything else was open chords and partial strum, picking out the important tones.
