The Standells were from L.A., not Boston - but producer/writer/former
Four Prep Ed Cobb reputedly wrote this song about dorm curfews at Boston
University. --AWR

Dirty Water – The Standells
How to play

It's a little easier if you instead play the second part like this:
-----------------|-----------------|
-----------------|-8---8-7---------|
---------7-------|-----------------|
/7---7-----------|-----------------|
-----------------|-----------------|
-----------------|-----------------|
I think it's technically the same pitch, playing it this way just means that you don't have to slide your hand up and down the guitar as much, so you can play the whole thing in one place. :)
+3

it sounds best if u slide from 2 to 7 for the intro, and from 5 to 12 for the second part

If your playing solo, I play it like this using these chords.
-----------------|-----------------|
-----------------|-----------------|
--1---1---2------|--2---2--2-------|
--2---2---2------|--2---2--2-------|
--2---2---2------|--3---3--2-------|
-----------------|-----------------|
Just an E and A variation then move it up to an A and D variation.
Works for me.
