[Intro] Am7

[Verse]
      Am7
Now somewhere in the black mining hills out Dakota
                                         D7
There lives a young boy named Rocky Raccoon-a
G7 C C/B Am
And one day his woman ran off with another guy, hit young Rocky in the eye...

                                            D9 - D7
Rocky didn't like that, he said, "I'm gonna get that boy."
        G7 C C/B
So one day he walked into town and booked himself a room in the local saloon.

[Verse]
  Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
A Rocky Racoon checked into his room, only to find Gideon's Bible
 Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
Rocky had come equipped with a gun, to shoot off the legs of his rival.
     Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
His rival, it seems, had broken his dreams, by stealing the girl of his fancy

[Verse]
    Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
Her name was McGill, and she called herself 'Lil' , but everyone knew her as Nancy.
    Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
Now she and her man, who called himself Dan, were in the next room at the hoedown
 Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
Rocky burst in, and grinning a grin, he said, "Danny boy, this is a showdown."
     Am7 D9 - D7 G7 G C C/B
But Daniel was hot, he drew first and shot, and Rocky collapsed in the corner.

  Am7 D9-D7 G7 C C/B
Da-n-da da da-n-da da da

[Verse]
        Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
Now the doctor came in stinking of gin, and proceeded to lie on the table.
           Am7 D9 - D7
He said, "Rocky, you met your match." but Rocky said, "Doc, it's only a scratch.
               G7 C C/B
And I'll be better... I'll be better Doc as soon as I'm able."

[Verse]
    Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
Now Rocky Raccoon, he fell back in his room, only to find Gideon's bible.
 Am7 D9 - D7 G7 C C/B
Gideon checked out, and he left it no doubt, to help with good Rocky's revival.

  Am7 D9-D7 G7 C C/B 3x
Da-n-da da da-n-da da da

In the Am7 and C chords, the pinky holds a high G
So it's really Am9

I think the Am7 name is fine. The high G would be the b7th of the Am (same as the open G sometimes used on the 3rd string). The G for the C chord is just the 5th (same as the open G on the 3rd string). The 9th for an A chord would be a B note, right? (half step below the minor 3rd)
