Verse 1:

C G F C Am
If you're down on your luck, don't get down on yourself

It won't do you no good
C G F C
'Cause I've been there before, fought a hundred wars
 Am G C
And I'm still fighting for you

Chorus:

F C G C
Elouise, why'd you leave?
F Am G C
Please confess, confess to me.
F C G C
Sing my song, patiently
     F Am G (C)
And I'll return, my Elouise.

Intro/Interlude/Outro (2x)

Verse 2:

C G F C Am
Let's be Elvis and, let's be David Byrne
            G C
Let's all learn how to dance
C G F C
Move your feet in time, put your hand in mine
Am G C
  We will waltz once again.

Chorus:

F C G C
Elouise, why'd you leave?
F Am G C
Please confess, confess to me.
F C G C
Sing my song, patiently
     F Am G C
And I'll return, my Elouise.

F C G C
Elouise, why'd you leave?
F Am G C
Please confess, confess to me.
F C G C
Sing my song, graciously
 F Am G (C)
We will waltz, Elouise.

This arrangement is flawless. For beginners, the meter is 3/4 time (one-two-three two-two-three three-two-three).
