@GittarGirl, actually you're wrong, the point of that the preacher likes the cold because he knows the singer is going to stay due to the warmth. If the singer felt the call to come to the lord he wouldn't "pretend to pray". The whole point of the song is that he misses L.A. where he'd "be safe and warm" and this is why he stops in to the church, with his only wish to be warmth.

last verse 3rd line should be "If I didn't tell her I could leave today."
