I think you are on the right track. I would only make some minor changes. In all references to "all these things, all these things are yours" I would make it an D, E, A. In the third line of the verses which starts with the F#m, I would make it F#m, A, D, A.

I'm with you, not sure the first verse, but I think the second verse goes, "John Coltrane's addict ways, took us all to better days". Coltrane was a heroin addict.
