Song: Song to the siren
Artist: Tim Buckley
Composers: Tim Buckley and Larry Beckett
Albums: The dream belongs to me / Morning glory

Tabbed by: DJ 8th Oct 2014

IMPORTANT NOTE:
This tab is NOT the version on the 1970
'Starsailor album, which is in Bb (approx.)
That recording is a little below standard pitch,
probably played in G with a Capo at the 3rd fret.
The 3rd verse lyric differs too, 'I am puzzled as
the newborn child, I am as riddled as the tide.'
The 1968 acoustic version this tab is based on is
on the compilation album 'The dream belongs to me'.
Tim's guitar is again a bit below standard pitch,
you'd need to drop all your strings down slightly to
match the album track more closely, so detune all the
strings down by approx. minus 25 cents.

Tim's performance on 'The Monkees TV show', and also
on the 'Morning Glory' album, is in standard pitch,
but his guitar is tuned down a semi-tone, common
practise for 12 string guitars, taking some pressure
off of the guitar neck.
Tim plays the chords as below, in D, and has his
capo at the 3rd fret. So, allowing for his half-step
de-tuning, the song then sounds in E.
To achieve the same key as this video there is no need
at all to de-tune from standard tuning, just put the
capo at the 2nd fret instead of the 3rd.

CAPO: 2nd fret
(Will then sound in the recorded key of E)

IGNORE THE CHORD BOX DIAGRAMS that the website
displays, they are generated automatically from a
generic database and often don't show the best
options for a particular chord progression. Just use
the voicings suggested in the text column numbers.

Chord names & fret positions are relative to the capo:
Dsus4 = xx0233    Csus2#11 = x30032    A  = x02220
D     = xx0232    G/B      = x20033    G  = 320033
Csus2 = x30033    Gmaj7/B  = x20032    Bm = x24432

Hi. Thanks for this tab. It's one of my all time favourite songs. Do you have any tips on the finger picking?

Thanks for this tab. Given it 5 stars but a couple of minor suggestions: - The D4 should strictly be Dsus4 - The X30032 chord is tricky but I think I'd call it D7/C

Another great tab thanks. You know it's hard to believe that I had never even heard of the song till I heard it discussed in depth yesterday on the UK BBC radio 4 programme Soul Music while I was stuck in a traffic jam. (I would have been 11 or 12 when it was first released in 1967).
