For years I've been trying to figure out the chorus chord on the word "bitter" and "escape". I've toyed with minor 4 chords and I keep hearing a diminished chord but never figured it out. I assumed it hasd to be a simple finger change to just flatten the chord but never got it. Now, I think the best approximation is not this E chord listed here but E augmented. Or, in the proper key, Dm#7. Relative to the capo that'd be X02110. It shares properties with the E chord but still has that dissonant crunch I've always heard on that chord.
