F G Dm F F G Dm F

    F G
I left my home in Monterey, just another low prospects man
     Dm Dm
I'd rather work in a foundry than put fishes in a can
     F F G
I'm thirty-five and I haven't traveled far
          Dm Dm F
And I've spent all my money on this misbegotten car

    Em F
I'm up against it all like a leaf against the wind
           F Dm F
And this Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
    Dm F G F F
My Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
   C7 F
I thought I'd go to Fresno just to see my friend
        G F F F G F
But my damn Studebaker keeps on breaking down again

G Dm F F G Dm F

        F G
I was speeding south on ninety-nine when the manifold started smokin'
   Dm Dm F
I ran her off the shoulder, and now the axle's broken
                      F G
It made a sound that cracked my heart in half
          Dm Dm F
And with only half a half pint of vodka left

I'm up against it all like a leaf against the wind
And this Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
My Studebaker keeps on breaking down away
I thought I'd go to Fresno just to see my friend
But my damn Studebaker keeps on breaking down again

F G Dm F F G Dm F

     F Dm F
My Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
    Dm F G F F
My Studebaker keeps on breaking down again
    C7 F
I thought I'd go to Fresno just to see my friend
        G F F F G F
But my damn Studebaker keeps on breaking down again

I thank you for your effort. However, this does not sound right to me. After trying this, I went to the guitar submission, and just used those chords. (Obviously just the chords, not the fingerings.) It sounds great, even on ukulele. (I'm not sure it's 100% correct, but I'd bet it's 98% or better.) In short, thanks again, but I'd recommend starting with the chords from the guitar version.
