It close, I generally play C, Em, Am, E, F, G, C--G, where the last G is on the offbeat of the measure (its right about when he says "to" in the line "tuned to chords")

there are some things about the chorus part but otherwise the verses are dead on

For years I've been trying to figure out the chorus chord on the word "bitter" and "escape". I've toyed with minor 4 chords and I keep hearing a diminished chord but never figured it out. I assumed it hasd to be a simple finger change to just flatten the chord but never got it. Now, I think the best approximation is not this E chord listed here but E augmented. Or, in the proper key, Dm#7. Relative to the capo that'd be X02110. It shares properties with the E chord but still has that dissonant crunch I've always heard on that chord.
