I dont fully understand it, but i think because standard tuning is (low to high) EADG, and the literal meaning for drop D is GDAD, some people take drop D and just tune each string however many steps they need to for the song. like,

If that doesnt help, try looking up tunings on wikipedia... theres more about it there.

Why do you guys always come up with so fuk up tuning, AFAD, GDFB, GDGD, what're these shit. Nice if someone can explain.
