Surprise Tab

Some of this tab was worked out by watching a video of Filter performing an acoustic version, but I'd wager it's basically the same as the recorded electric version (which has an acoustic guitar in it).Was this info helpful?
Difficulty: | intermediate |
---|---|
Tuning: | E A D G B E |
Key: | C |
Capo: | no capo |
Tuning (all guitars):
1: e
2: C
3: F
4: C
5: G
6: C
A slightly overdriven electric and an acoustic play most of the chords throughout the song.
The electric plays the riffs, while something else (keyboard, synthesizer, etc.) plays the melodic pieces
present during the chorus parts (tabbed here for guitar). The chord tabs are shown, but not the frequency or
pattern of strumming. This is easy to identify when listening to the recorded version.
**Be careful tuning the 2nd string up to a C; I've snapped strings doing it. Best to tune up a bit, then go
back
down a couple of times, letting the string stretch and release.
[Intro] - Arpeggiate the first chord. Intro and verses consist of alternating between the same two chords.
The first of these chords can be played with or without an open 6th string (C) - your preference.

[Bridge] Overdriven electric guitar, possibly with some reverb and filtering effects. Acoustic
continues playing verse chords:
e|----------------------------------------------------|
C|-------------14--0-------------------14--12(H)------|
F|--11(b~)--14-----11------11(b~)--14-----------------|

C|-12--12--12-------12--12--5----|
C|-10--9---9--------9---9---5----|
G|-0---0---0--------9---0---5----|
...then the acoustic plays this chord many times while the OD electric strums muted strings quickly in a
build-up:
