[Verse 1]
C F/C C Am7
  We're taking it slowly
                 F/C C
I'm afraid to be lonely
       F/C C
Nobody told me
     Am7 F/C C
It's harder than I thought to tell the truth
                        F/C C Am7
It's gonna leave you in pieces
                    F/C C
All alone with your demons
                   F/C C
And I know that we need this
    Am7 F/C
But I've been too afraid to follow through

[Chorus]
C/G F C/G
Hold me close and I won't leave
          Am7 G F C/G
'Cause it hurts when you hurt somebody
                     F C/G
So much to say but I don't speak
      Am7 G F C/G
And I hate that I let you stop me
          Am7 G F C/G
'Cause it hurts when you hurt somebody

[Verse 2]
C F/C C Am7
Don't know where the time went
                   F/C C
Stuck in the wrong mindset
              F/C C
And I let the rules bend
         Am7 F C
When I know that all along they're made to break
                         F/C C Am7
You got me searching for reasons
                F/C C
To keep me from leaving
                        F/C C
And that I have trouble breathing
  Am7 F/C C F/C
I give myself another chance to stay

[Chorus]
C/G F C/G
Hold me close and I won't leave
          Am7 G F C/G
'Cause it hurts when you hurt somebody
                     F C/G
So much to say but I don't speak
      Am7 G F C/G
And I hate that I let you stop me
          Am7 G F C/G
'Cause it hurts when you hurt somebody

[Bridge]

All of the pain and all the irony
Dm Am7 C

I'm pretty sure the lyrics are "all the pain and all the irony" not harmony.

Yes....thank you! For my obsessive ears, this version has the nuances I was looking for. I have one minor tweak to suggest. I think (just guessing here by sound) in the chorus where you have that he progresses from Am7 - G - F - C/G, the “G” is played like this: |-0-| |-1-| |-0-| |-2-| |-x-| |-3-| I have no clue what the chord is called, but in the song it sounds like he’s keeping the core Am7 chord structure but just walking the bass note down to a G on the way to the eventual F.
